MaMoni Bids Adieu to HSS and Welcomes MNCSP at Learning, Sharing and Launching Event

On September 20, 2018, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW), Government of Bangladesh with support from USAID’s MaMoni Health System Strengthening (MaMoni HSS) project hosted the learning, sharing and launching event, “Strengthening Health Systems for Maternal, Newborn, Child Health and Family Planning”, at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC). The event highlighted the results and lessons from the five –year USAID’s MaMoni Health Systems Strengthening Project in the areas of maternal health and family planning, newborn health, quality of care and health systems strengthening. A new five-year initiative known as the USAID’s MaMoni Maternal and Newborn Care Strengthening Project (MaMoni MNCSP) was also launched at the event.

Honorable State Minister, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW), Mr. Zahid Maleque attended as the Chief Guest; whilst Dr. A. E. Md. Muhiuddin Osmani, Joint Chief, Planning Wing, Health Services Department, chaired the event.

Several thematic presentations were held, along with group discussions and panel discussions during the event, covering various topics and Q&A on maternal and newborn health. Speaking at the closing session of the event, Chief Guest Honourable State Minister, MOH&FW Mr. Zahid Maleque highlighted the importance of improving facility-based services for mothers and newborns and called for greater attention to ensuring minimal levels of quality in all public and private health facilities.

Representatives from other ministries and departments of the Government of Bangladesh voiced their pleasure with the achievements of MaMoni HSS and hoped that the new MaMoni MNCSP will reach even higher accolades.

Representatives from USAID opined that Bangladesh has been an example for many developing countries in rapidly adopting and scaling up newborn health interventions; and complemented the Government of Bangladesh for its initiatives through the various Health Sector Programs and reaffirmed US Government’s continued support for development agenda of Bangladesh government.
